HOW MANY

The focus of this lesson is teaching numbers 1-20.  However, the Eigo Noto doesn’t want to simply focus on the counting aspect, but rather learning them via songs and games the students already know.  

 

Once they become comfortable with these numbers, feel free to broaden the range.  Also, you can incorporate cross-cultural things like the differences in counting on your fingers or the way cultures keep score on paper.  A good game to use for this lesson is Snakes-n-Ladders. [You can find various S-n-L boards on Englipedia.]

 

Finally, keep in mind that students like to be challenged.  Try using kanji students have learned in other classes and turning the characters into some type of number game.

数で遊ぼう

 

同 じ数を数えるのにも、言葉だけでなく、指を使った数え方や「正」の漢字を使った数の記録の仕方などのように、国によって異なることを体験させ、日本との違 いや同じところに着付かせる。数を扱った世界のゲームとしては、古代インドゲームが起源であると言われている「スネークス・アンド・ラダーズ」という「す ごろく型ボード・ゲーム」を体験させる。グループで協力してゲームを進める中で、互いに学び合う姿が見られると期待したい。

 

また、数に触れる最後の活動として、国語科で学んだ漢字の画数を題材としたゲームを行う。児童の知的寄心を生かしたゲームであり、活発な会話が展開されることをねらいとしている。

本 単元では、これからの活動の中で繰り返し使われる「数」のうち、入門気として１～２０の数を取り上げる。数の取り上げ方としては、ただ単に数を数えるので はなく、歌や今まで体験したことのあるようなゲームと通して、その中で必然的に出てきた数に触れながら、少しずつ使える範囲を広げさせる。

           Lesson 3 Specific Activities                                    
"How Many Apples?" Janken: Students will try to collect apples by playing janken and asking "How many apples?"

Mind Reader: Students use their psychic powers to guess the number on the card their classmate is holding.


Number Bingo: Students play bingo to review numbers 1-20.


The Speed Game: Students practice numbers 1-20 while trying to improve their speed. 


Sum of 21: Students practice counting from 1-20 with a deck of cards.
